Holders of passports
of the following countries in respect of bona fide holiday
and business visits not exceeding 30 days and transits:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Barbados
- Belie
- Benin
- Bolivia
- Botswana
- Cape Verde
- Comoros
- Costa Rica
- Cyprus
- Gabon
- Guyana
- Hong Kong*
- Hungary
- Jordan
- Lesotho

- Mexico

- Peru
- Seychelles
- Singapore
- Slovak Republic
- South Korea
- Thailand

including police on cross border investigation

* These arrangements is only with regard to holders of Hong
Kong British National - Overseas (BNO) passports, Hong Kong
special administrative region (HKSAR) passports and Hong Kong
Certificates of Identity.
- These arrangements are not applicable to individuals whose
visa exemption have been withdrawn. In all cases the normal
entry requirements still have to be complied with before
admission is gained.
- Aliens who intend to temporarily manage or conduct any
business in the RSA whether for their own account or not
are not regarded as business visitors, but require work
permits. Representatives of the media reporting on current
events as well s stills producers and their teams who are
employed abroad are however permitted to enter the country
as business visitors. Sports persons who are passport holders
of the countries listed also do not require visas for participating
in competitive events, as opposed to those who wish to take
up contracts or sports positions in the RSA, who require
work permits.
- The Department of Foreign Affairs should be consulted
regarding visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
- Visas are not required by passport holders of Lesotho,
Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Malawi who are
entering the RSA as commercial heavy duty vehicle drivers
provided their visits do not exceed 15 days and on condition
that they can produce a letter confirming their employment
with a transport company on entry.
- Staff members of the Southern African Development Community
(SADC) who travel on SADC laissez passers are exempt from
South African visa control for bona fide official business
visits of up to 30 days and transits.
- Holders of United Nations laissez passer are exempt from
visa control when visiting the RSA for periods not exceeding
30 days for bona fide holiday and official business purposes
and transits and when accredited in the RSA, for the duration
of their accreditation.
- Volunteers attached to United Nations agencies and traveling
on ordinary passports are exempt from the visa requirement,
provided that they are in possession of the necessary letters
or identification documents to identify themselves at ports
of entry as personnel of UN agency.
- Holders of OAU lazes passer are exempt from visa control
when visiting the RSA for bona fide official business visits
of up to 30 days and transits.
- UN employees who are permanent residents in the RSA are
exempt from the re-entry visa requirement, provided that
they are in possession of the necessary letters or identification
documents to identify themselves at ports of entry as personnel
of UN agency.
- visas are not issued at South African ports of entry and
airline officials are obliged to insist on visas, if required,
before allowing passengers to board.
- South African's re-admission to international organizations
for example the Commonwealth in no way affects the RSA's
visa policy, which is purely a bilateral matter. Citizens
of countries which are also members of such organizations
and which are not listed above are not exempt from the visa
requirement.
- International volunteers attending holiday camps or community
sports development projects and post-doctoral research fellows
conducting research do not require work permits but must
apply for visitor's visas.
